Ergon: The Customizable Design Workstation

A workstation designed for modern designers

As designers ourselves, we understand the importance of a workstation that is not only functional but also customizable. Inspired by architecture and geometry, AO. Makos, J. Noussis & M. Argyriadou have created Ergon, a design workstation that combines utility with high aesthetic value.

Ergon is specifically designed for product, graphic, and digital/web designers, catering to the needs of the modern era. What sets Ergon apart from other workstations is its high level of customization. It offers plenty of storage facilities that can be tailored to individual preferences, ensuring that designers have everything they need within arm's reach.

One of the standout features of Ergon is its connectivity. The workstation is connected to a socket, providing power for all the necessary equipment and USB splitters. This eliminates the need for messy cables and ensures a clutter-free workspace.

The design of Ergon draws inspiration from the clean lines of contemporary design and modern architecture. With its sleek and minimalist aesthetic, Ergon is not only a functional tool but also an object of beauty. It seamlessly integrates into any design studio or office space, enhancing the overall visual appeal.

Ergon is made from recycled OSB coated with lacquer wood, giving it an ecological character. The production process utilizes CNC cutting, making it easy to mass-produce. This ensures that Ergon is not only visually appealing but also environmentally friendly.

Measuring at 1650mm in width, 800mm in depth, and 760mm in height, Ergon provides ample workspace for designers to unleash their creativity. It features a removable design surface, with a cutting surface on the opposite side for the construction of models. The workstation also includes 8 specially designed cases for storing peripherals such as tablets, smartphones, business cards, and even a base with a cork layer for placing hot or cold beverages.

The Ergon project was undertaken in Athens, Greece, starting in November and concluding in February. Extensive research was conducted to understand the needs of different types of designers, as well as the current design status quo. The design team conducted interviews, video observations, mock-ups, user testing, and computer analysis to ensure that Ergon met the high standards of designers.

Ergon has been recognized for its excellence in design, receiving the Bronze A' Design Award in the Furniture Design category in 2016. This prestigious award is bestowed upon designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

Ergon is not just a workstation; it is a tool that empowers designers to do their work with ease, speed, and personalization. With its customizable features, sleek design, and ecological character, Ergon is the ideal workstation for the modern designer.
